Hello hello, bonjour! My first book of 2024 was Lucy Foley’s The Paris Apartment, a thrilling whodunit set in the City of Lights and Love. I started this late December 30th, hoping to add one last title to my 2023 list, but couldn’t finish it in time. Not because the book was hard to get through—it’s fairly fast-paced and would have been easy to read all in one sitting if I hadn’t been busy with end-of-year stuff.

The Paris Apartment follows Jess, who’s just arrived in Paris after landing in some trouble in England. Her brother, Ben, has been living there and working as a journalist, but when Jess shows up at his apartment, he’s nowhere to be seen. Jess decides to investigate Ben’s disappearance, and it’s through this process that we meet Ben’s neighbors and learn all their secrets. Eventually, the pieces fall into place, with plenty of surprises along the way.
Overall, I really enjoyed reading this. I’ve read a few other of Lucy Foley’s books, and she sure knows how to write a mystery. I do wish some of the reveals had been, I don’t know, more dramatic? If you look at other reviews on Goodreads you’ll see similar points being made. There’s a lot of tension built, something that Foley really excels at, but it didn’t always pay off. It was still a great book, one that I had fun reading, it just… could have been better, I guess.
